Many of us love cats and see them as domestic pets. They are often called a housecat when kept as an indoor pet, or simply a cat when there is no need to distinguish them from other felids and felines.

There is an island in Fukuoka, Japan which is known as Cat Island. Photographer Fubirai has spent the last five years researching these semi-wild cats that roam the island.

The cats are fed by local fisherman as they wonder freely around the streets boatyards, porches, and houses of the city.
