I’ve often said that my favourite design work is logo design. There’s something about having constraints in the form of a very small canvas size to work with, but the freedom to go in any design direction you want, that I find particularly appealing. There are so many directions that you can take a logo, and so many different techniques and styles, that it’s difficult to know where to begin. On a canvas size that small, any design decision you make will have a very noticeable impact on the feel and personality of the finished product, and so you have to tread carefully.

One style that I absolutely love is the use of illustration as part of the logo. This is a remarkably difficult style to get right, and requires some real talent – but the end result is usually a brand identity that feels a bit more personal. There are still different paths to take with this style – from fun and quirky to elegant and refined, but illustration helps to add that personal touch which is hard to achieve with other logo design styles.

To help give you some logo illustration inspiration, I’ve collected some examples of my favourite new, fresh designs. Some remarkably talented designers have meticulously crafted these logos, and I hope they help to get your creative juices flowing. I’d love to know which ones of these are your favourites in the comments.
