Breaking up in a relationship may be heartbreaking and getting fired from a job can be frightening, but moving on can also be ranked as one of life’s major stressful events. It’s difficult to move on because we human beings love the idea of safety and security, and that often arises from the familiarity of our environment.

Uprooting your whole life brings about mixed feelings. There’s the excitement of moving on to the possibility of a brighter future. However there’s also the regret that things didn’t work out better for you where you once lived.

It is normal to have attachment to what is familiar, our home, our work, friends, family and relationships. In addition, you may not be quite convinced that things will be better for you elsewhere. As the old saying goes, “No matter where you go, there you are.”

How Do You Know When It Is Time to Move On in Life

Still, sometimes you just have to move. When you do, you need to make the move with the help of a professional moving company like Allied because you need to get plenty of practical help to cut costs and expedite the process as efficiently as possible.

Moving On in Life

Moving on and letting go of what you know can be tough but liberating

It can be hard to say goodbye to a home that you have nurtured and improved over many years. A home that you had so much input into building, nurturing the design, the decorating and the home improvements. However sometimes in life that day of moving must finally come.

Reasons to Move On

You usually have to move for one of two reasons, and, more often than not, it’s a mixture of both things. One reason is that you need to move away from some people and certain circumstances. The other reason is that you need to move toward something better and more productive in your life.

Let’s take a look at both motivations for leaving what is familiar in life and moving on to something completely different elsewhere in the world.

Moving Away Motivation

Sometimes, the people you are living with are difficult to tolerate any longer. They may be your parents or a roommate or even your wife or husband!

You feel the tension of trying to adapt to their limiting worldview every day and you just want to run away. This can be the signal to load the heavy loader and shift life far away to distant places.

Moving On

You know when the time is right to load your belongings and move your entire life away to pastures new.

Perhaps, they are overly dominating and want to run your life their way. They know exactly what you should be doing with your life and are quite vocal about how you are a huge disappointment and a let down.

Perhaps, they are passively aggressive and their limited, overcautious view of life is driving you nuts. They freak out when everything isn’t in a state of pristine order and perfect equanimity because of their own deep insecurity.

Sometimes, it’s the actual neighborhood you live in. It’s a place you don’t enjoy being in anymore, maybe over time it has changed. Perhaps, you live in a run-down part of the city, or the smog is getting worse, or the litter on the streets is getting out of control, or there is an increase in crime in the neighborhood, or the complacent, gossipy neighbors are just infuriating.

New Places and New Horizons

Sometimes, it’s the house you live in. It’s so old and antiquated that no amount of home decorating genius will make it feel like home. As a designer or as someone who loves an aesthetic environment, it’s difficult to put up with the small rooms and the old fixtures.

You long for a much more stylish bathroom with beautiful tile or a deep tub; a bedroom that is spacious and with much larger windows; and a living room that will make you feel proud to invite guests.

Sometimes, it’s the long commute to your job. Yet sometimes it’s the job itself that signals the end of one phase in life and the beginning of something new, fresh and exciting elsewhere in the country or further afield.

The Commute to Work

Are we having fun yet? Certain things in life are not so hard to miss such as the daily grind of commuting to work

Whatever the reason for moving on in this world, you just know, almost on a cellular level, that it’s time to get out and make the change, less perhaps you never truly do. Moving on is as much about bravery and conviction as it is reason.

Moving Toward Motivation

The flip side of the coin is that maybe life is better on the other side of the city or state or country. You could be living with the love of your life or be surrounded by more like-minded people. Instead of putting up with feeling like an outcast because of your interests, talents, or profession, you could be feeling right at home.

Changing Your Environment

You could be living in the right environment for you. Perhaps, you lived in the city, but you loved the peace of the countryside, or perhaps you lived in the country and were bored to tears and longed for the cultural opportunities of life in the big city.

Change is good

This might be taking moving on to icy extremes but change is good right?

You could be living in a really nice house or apartment, where everything is modern, spacious, and well-lit. It’s a place you don’t have to worry about spiders or roaches or mice. It’s a place you don’t have to hunt down the latest breakout of mold infestation. And it’s a place where the rooms are just perfect. You could be working closer to a job that you love in next to no time at all.

Moving on Requires Bravery and Spirit

Moving on means that you could be alone at last, finally enjoying an adventure all your own instead of trying to fit in with other people’s version of what you should be, do, and have.

Taking the plunge and by bravely moving on you could be living in a place that you’ve always wanted to go. A place you often dreamed of but never had the courage to move before now.

Perhaps by moving on you could be enjoying much better weather and lifestyle also. Possibly also, you love the cold and relish the crisp air that a change of scenery might bring, or vice-versa. Alternatively, you may have always lived in a cold place and would love to wake up in the sun and not cover up just to walk outside.

Growth is Part of Life

Much as we would love stability and predictability in our lives, we also crave change and diversity. The place you live in right now may no longer fit in with your goals and ideals. You’re a different person now, and your environment only reflects the person you used to be.

Instead of suppressing your feelings, it may be time to be honest with yourself, admitting your frustrations or being more open to the possibilities of living a much more fulfilling life in a new place.
