Some of the more observant among you might have noticed the recent passing of a mile stone here on DesignBump. Last week we registered our 10,000th member. That is a huge number, one that I never really thought of reaching when I first launched DesignBump a little over a year and a half ago. To celebrate, I have decided to launch another "Bump" site to help compliment DesignBump.

TutorialBump is still in its infancy, and I am sure there are glitches I have yet to fix, but it is officially open for business.

Most people think of black and white images and film being something of the past; but most people are in a different world to us that appreciate good design.

teaser

Although black and white web design has always been about, over the past few months I've noticed a dramatic increase in the amount of designs that use a very limited greyscale based 'color' scheme.

If you've spent any time online in the past 5 years, you're bound to have heard the phrase content is king.

teaser

Heated debates have gone on for years to see if it truly is or isn't king - I will not be entering that debate. My goal in this article is to shed light on the discussion and also show a different side of the topic in general.

Design is one of those things that (in the end) can affect our decisions in such a way that it can make us, or stop us, from purchasing something we didn't purposely go out to buy.

Coding up a simple and clean website from scratch does not need to be a difficult or time consuming task. Today we're going to be taking a PSD file and turning it into a valid XHTML/CSS template. The files used to create the template are downloadable at the end of the article (PSD included).

Every designer loves a freebie that can actually add something to their work. That is probably why free, beautiful, high quality icon sets are among the most coveted freebies for designers. Thankfully, many icon designers create absolutely amazing icon sets and then give them away for free download, hopefully gaining some much deserved exposure in the process.

Not only can well designed icons improve the quality of a designer's work, they can also help to communicate with visitors in a more effective way. Icons help to provide users with more intuitve and memorable illustrations and visual support for possible actions, navigation, or even just understanding of the overall message.

Blogs are not going to stop growing. The ease of use and the ability for anyone, anywhere in the world to become a published author is uncanny and will be a driving force for years to come.

However, just because someone can write and publish posts on their blog doesn't mean that their blog will be visually appealing and that the owner of the blog knows the ins and outs to great blog design. So in today's article I would like to discuss some of the common blog design mistakes I come across and show you how you can side step them and benefit from beating them.
