45 Amazing Sites Built With and Powered by Drupal

For bloggers, especially in the design community, one content management system (CMS) seems to be preferred over all others. Almost every blog that I make a habit of visiting daily uses WordPress. DesignBump, both the originals sections and the user powered news portion, uses Drupal exclusively. I love Drupal for its immense expandability. With all the user contributed modules available, anything is possible.

Drupal is like a giant bucket of Legos: There are enough pieces to make whatever you want, you just have to figure out how to put them together.

Check out the Facebook, Twitter, and Basecamp clones made using nothing but Drupal. The functionality is there, along with proven scalability. I know they aren't the prettiest but isn't that what designers are for?

I understand why WordPress has grown so quickly and was adopted so eagerly. The admin interface is arguably much more user friendly, the CMS itself is much easier to setup and implement, and with so many designers creating themes for WordPress there are a lot more options to help beautify a blog. Drupal shouldn't be neglected though! For those that aren't in the know, here is a list of 45 amazing and well put together Drupal sites from across internet. Enjoy!

P.S. If there are any other amazing Drupal sites I left out please leave them in the comments!

Great list. I'm amazed at how easy it is to put up a quality website today now that we have all these great CMS products. Drupal, Joomla and Wordpress (pick your poison) are great for both individual and business sites. The wealth of plugins and themes/templates allow you to create a high quality site in an hour.

I'm huge fan of WordPress, and I'm running over 10 wp sites, 'cause it is simple. But I'm also aware of Drupal's power, as it's shown on http://www.barackobama.com/. But now I must create something similar to facebook; a small online community and I'm seriously thinking of Drupal.

Drupal is only great for large sites. However, if you want to build say a portfolio site its overly complicated. I would recommend "textpattern" or "expression engine" CMS. The learning curve for drupal is too steep.

I really like the Drupal designs comparing to Wordpress,I'd like to give it a try but am bit nervous as I heard it is not the easiest platform to learn and get used to.

Someone forgot to include my site: www.NYWellnessGuide.com ;)
Good list though. I wish there more designers involved in the evolution of Drupal. It seems that it's driven by developers mostly, that's why it's lagging behind Wordpress in terms of diversity of designs.

That's a great quote and exactly how I feel about Drupal.

Thanks for the list.

The Drupal Twitter page was up at the time of the posting. It is a pretty cool example of what Drupal can do so it is a shame it is down.
