The city of San Francisco, which is in northern California, is a coastal city on the tip of a peninsula surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay. It’s well known for its year-round fog, the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, rolling cable cars and of course the rather colorful Victorian houses. The Financial District’s Transamerica Pyramid is easily its most distinctive skyscraper. Out in the bay area of the city sits Alcatraz Island, site of the notorious former prison.
