Milan Fashion Week: Spring Trends We Can Expect For 2025
Few events on the fashion world’s calendar generate as much excitement as Milan Fashion Week. This biannual occasion serves as a hub for designers, models and the fashion elite, all keen to showcase their latest creations and herald the future trends. What can we expect to see from the SS25 launch in Italy’s fashion capital? Read on to find out what we predict will define fashion in the coming year.
Sheer and delicate fabrics
For Spring/Summer 2025, designers look set to continue embracing ethereal, sheer fabrics, as we’ve seen in the past on Milan runways. Look out for an eclectic use of translucent materials such as chiffon, tulle and organza, as well as luxurious fabrics such as silk.
Perfect for spring, sheer, lightweight fabrics fuse understated elegance with femininity, as we’ve seen time and time again by the likes of Prada (showing Thursday 19th September) and Alberta Ferretti (Tuesday 17th September).
Designers such as Missoni (Friday 20th September), as well as Chloé, may well go one step further and bring in silk shawls and wraps into their SS25 collection. Many Italian fashion brands are embracing the versatility of the silk shawl, with women appreciating silk’s luxurious qualities, as well as its capacity to create delicate layers.
Bold prints and vibrant colors
In AW24 collections, designers did not shy away from vibrant color palettes and monochrome, ensuring the winter season is anything but muted. We expect to see more of this for SS25, but with a nod to spring. Look out for bold primary colors such as vibrant yellows and electric blues, and pay particular attention to prints – animal is back! It’s not just leopard print, keep your eyes peeled for animal motifs of all kinds, from dogs to dolphins and, of course, the latest trend – the ubiquitous lobster sweater!
Playful patterns and vivid hues paired with lightweight, flowing fabrics mean spring is set to be colorful and fun, marked with neon accents and plenty of color-blocking. Designers such as Versace and Adrian Appiolaza at Moschino, known for their love of color, are sure to embrace this trend!
Tailoring with a twist
Tailoring always forms a central part of Milan Fashion Week, and September’s edition is unlikely to be any different. However, in addition to the classic tailoring and oversized outer garments seen in AW24 collections, spring could bring some playful elements perfect for the season. These are likely to include asymmetrical lines and innovative features such as giant fasteners and buttons, representing the fashion world’s yearning for practicality coupled with individuality.
Sportswear reimagined
From oversized rugby shirts to basketball shorts, tennis outfits and athletics vests, designers are embracing the sportswear aesthetic like never before! However, while the sports aesthetic has been a feature of collections for some time, SS25 is set to see some unusual pairings as designers go all out to make a bold statement. The “blokette” trend is set to continue, with sportswear paired with more feminine elements, such as lace skirts, belts, feminine sandals, as well as shawls and wraps. Watch this space!
