I was meeting with the chair of my department in college to fix a problem with my classes. I mentioned something about my mom being a single parent, and how that made things tough to balance. He heard me wrong and thought that I said that I was a single parent. He then gave me resources to help take care of my kids. By the time I realized what was going on, it was too late to say anything. He was just being so nice about it. It was uncomfortable.
