My dad told his then-girlfriend that he paid for my student loans, and that he put the down payment down on my house. He needed to make it look like he was broke, because she kept begging him for money. He also thought it would make him look like a good father, as in a I-gave-my-daughter-all-my-money-to-help-her kind of way.
I didn’t know that my father had told her this, until she called me screaming about how I was selfish for taking all of his money. She said, “He’ll have nothing left for retirement you selfish brat! If you were my daughter I would disown you. Goodbye.” My father never even defended me. The thing that bothered me the most was that my dad never gave me a dime for anything in my entire life. He lied to make himself look good, but he never actually gave me any money.
