On the mountain top of Julian Apls in Italy the mountain-top hut that offers a panoramic view of the landscape is offering a free stay to anyone who can hike the 8,300ft Foronon del Buinz Mountain.
After mountain climber, Luca Vuerich died in an avalanche in 2010, his family commissioned an wood cabin by architect Giovanni Pesamosca. The mountain hut is locations on the Ceria-Merlone trail which offers a safe refuge for hikers and nature lovers. Launched in September 2012, the cabin prevents snow from piling in and it’s south facing opening let’s the sun in to melt any snow that builds up.
Because of it’s location, the building materials for this hut had to be flown in by helicopters, this took 18 trips. The professional team of 12 workers, mountain rescue volunteers and Luca’s friend help build the impressive mountain hut in only one day!
