“A room should start a conversation before people actually start exchanging words.”

The famous interior designer Barry Dixon, known for his beautiful cottage and grand estate creations, perfectly summarizes the unique role that interior design can play in beautifying our daily lives – and beautifying the lives of others.

Having interior design as a skill means having the ability to transform mediocre spaces into conversation starters. It means playing with color daily and styling pieces that reflect your unique style as a designer.

Become a qualified designer in your free time

Perhaps you have always dreamed of honing your skills as an interior designer, or maybe you have a natural knack for beautifying spaces, but you don’t have the time to enroll in a full-time course?

There’s a famous quote by E.A. Bucchianeri that states, “free time is a terrible thing to waste. Read a book.” In this case, we wholeheartedly agree with Bucchianeri but would like to put a personal twist on the phrase. Instead of reading a book, we recommend completing a course.

Imagine spending all the time usually spent lounging around towards obtaining a qualification in something you genuinely feel passionate about: like interior design.

If this sounds like something that you want to do, then you’re in for some good news because we’ve found the perfect course to complete during your free time.

The Interior Design Course

Course credits

• Art skills: 75 credits

• Digital skills: 75 credits

• Freelance skills: 70 credits

Whether you are a full-time employee with a job unrelated to interior design, a part-time creative, a freelancer, or a student looking to up their skills, the Interior Design Course is perfect for anyone remotely interested in interior design.

The Home Design Institute offers a ten-month real-time online course. This is an excellent chance to obtain all you need to know to either practice interior design as a career, complement design skills you already have, or gain knowledge for personal interior projects you’d like to complete.

We especially love this course because you get to learn from the best in the business. In this course, the top-notch lecturer is a world-renowned architect and interior designer, Angela Magliulo. Magliulo is an in-house lecturer at the Home Design Institute. Her super skills have been used in projects across the UK, Austria, Morocco, France and even Italy. Thanks to the real-time classes, students will learn practical and theoretical skills and get an insight into the interior design field from someone within the field. Magliulo is also the founder of her own architecture and design consulting studio – “Angela Magliulo – Beyond Architecture”.

It’s all about flexibility

We’re all about improving yourself in your free time, and the flexibility of this course enables students to do just that.

If you can’t participate in the real time classes, which takes place twice a week at 19:00 CET, a video record of the lectures will be uploaded on the platform for students to access at any time. Lecturers are also available to assist students with any queries they may have, and consultation times will be appointed.

Learn from a syllabus designed around practicality

What is knowledge in the interior design field if you can’t practically apply it? This is one more reason why the Home Design Institute’s Interior Design course is on our radar. It is designed around practicality, and students will learn more about the topic while completing practical tasks.

Students will be part of group projects and also take on a year-long personal project. All this while they gain practical skills in programs such as 3D Max and AutoCAD.

One of our favorite aspects of the practicality of this course is that, ultimately, these projects can be added to a student’s portfolio – so they won’t enter the field of interior decorating empty-handed.

Kimberly Atwood’s books have received starred reviews in Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, and Booklist. Kimberly lives in the Rocky Mountains with her husband, an exceptionally perfect dog, and an attack cat. Before she started writing historical research, Kimberly got a graduate degree in theoretical physical chemistry from Ohio State University. After that, just to shake things up, she went to law school at the University of London and graduated summa cum laude. Then she did a handful of clerkships with some really important people who are way too dignified to be named here. She was a law professor for a while. She now writes full-time.
