Visit San Francisco : Alcatraz Federal Prison

[/tps_title]

Most famously used as a federal prison between 1934 and 1963, Alcatraz Island is a short ferry ride from Fisherman’s Wharf. It’s easy to escape if you don’t mind a cold swim.

Managed by the National Parks Service, the island itself has no entry fee but Alcatraz Cruises charges visitors for transport to and from, as well as a guided tour.

Alcatraz Island is located in the Bay area, 1.25 miles offshore from the city of San Francisco, California, United States.

Even if you’re not a big short break planner, I recommend booking your tickets to the old prison on Alcatraz Island way ahead of time. It’s an island, after all, so management has to limit the number of people allowed on at once, and I’ve been disappointed before.

Alcatraz is surely one of the greatest attractions to visit in the city of San Francisco, just don’t expect to see Clint Eastwood taking a night time dip.
