NFL Sports Betting Guide for Beginners

NFL betting is a well-known wagering option in the betting industry due to its wide availability, fair game, and convenience. Moreover, the chance of winning is higher than the statistical probability. So, it’s worth trying your luck, even if you are a beginner.

Before we begin, let’s first understand an important aspect of NFL betting, i.e., odds. Odds are the payout structure of the NFL game. The minus sign (before Odds) denotes the amount you have for betting to win $100 (margin value of an NFL game). Similarly plus sign denotes the amount you will earn on a successful $100 wager.

It’s always important to check the NFL Week 1 odds before betting, as it gives a clear idea of the profits/loss associated with the bet. Once you know it, start off your NFL betting journey with the below guide.

Quick Tips for NFL Betting Beginners

  • Learn about sports betting policies and laws
  • Understand all the betting types
  • Do not get overexcited
  • Avoid putting too many stocks based on last week’s results
  • Establish a betting bankroll
  • Limit the bet size to not more than 5% of the bankroll

Moneylines

If you are a beginner, the first NFL bet you should know about is Moneyline. Moneyline bets are placed on the team that you think will win. Here the score doesn’t matter. If they win the match, you win too.

For example, there are two teams, X and Y, showing the line of money as:

X +160

Y -180

To explain the figures, if someone pays their wager on Team X, they are putting their $100 to win $160, and if they wager on Team Y, they are putting their $100 to win $180.

Totals

In this bet, if a margin of the total score is set to 20, and you bet on an above score of more than 20, the team has to score it. If it does, you win the bet. Similarly, if you bet on a value below 20 for the total score and the total score stands at the same, you win the below bet. If the score is 20, then the match is a draw.

Point Spread

Point spreads are placed on the margin of victory for an NFL game. Say team X and Y are at a spread of -7.5 and +7.5, respectively. If you think that team X can win the game, you will place your bets on -7.5, if not, you can follow otherwise.

Now, if team X wins the game by a point more than 7.5, say 8 or above, you win the bet. But, if they win the game with a point less than 7.5, you lose!

Hopefully, this guide will help you start off as an NFL bettor. Now that you know the basics try wagering with the easy bet types.
