The grunge web design look is inspired by rock and heavy metal music, as well the industrial and urban landscape we now live in. Grunge websites are characterised by having less structure to them than regular web design and a dark and gritty look. They are often a lot darker and edgier than other websites and for this reason this type of design would not be recommended for all types of business. For example, restaurant, child or sites aimed at women probably would alienate their audience by using grunge design.

However, in spite of this, there are plenty of great ways you use elements of this technique in your own web design. The use of grunge elements such as torn paper, unshaven edges and bold typography will give your website an interesting edge and will draw visitors to your site in.

Grunge is not currently widely used in web design so it is definitely something which you gain inspiration from before it becomes too common.
