The Wave, Arizona
[/tps_title]
The Wave is a sandstone rock formation that has been streaked into various patterns (owing to wind erosion). The multi colored bands are a result of metals oxidizing. The stone, Calcite further enhances the beauty of the rocks.
The wave is a photographers paradise on Earth. The Wave is located in the Coyote Buttes, which is found in the north area of the Arizona Strip. Visitors to the area will discover two prime photographic locations in Coyote Buttes North (The Wave and The Second Wave.)
In addition to the Wave, photographers will enjoy snapping the numerous minor rock formations found near the Wave. The formations include Melody Arch Top Rock Arch, and the Grotto, the Hooters, Sand Cove, The Alcove and Fatali’s Boneyard.
For taking pictures visitors will be interested to learn that the Wave is best photographed midday while the sun is high in the sky. This is so as to minimize the extensive shadows. The other rock formations near the Wave listed above are best photographed a few hours later during mid afternoon.
