Although many people find cleaning therapeutic, others consider it a complete chore. As well as eating into your precious free time, it can feel very repetitive and mundane. If you fall into the latter category, you will be pleased to note that there are things you can do to make it a bit more bearable.

Declutter first

When your home is filled to the brim with belongings, it can make your cleaning routine a lot harder than it needs to be, so having a good clear-out can be beneficial.

Getting rid of anything you don’t want, need, or use will free up surfaces, make your home feel more spacious, and can vastly speed up the cleaning process.

Deal with sections at a time

Being faced with a home that needs cleaning from top to bottom can feel overwhelming. Instead of looking at it as a whole, break it down into chunks. Dealing with one room at a time may help, or you might find it more bearable by doing one task such as dusting or vacuuming before moving on to the next.

Keep yourself entertained

Cleaning can be pretty boring, but you can alleviate some of it by listening to music while you work. Dancing around your kitchen with a mop and listening to some of your favorite tracks is not only fun, but it will make the time pass much quicker too!

If music isn’t your thing, why not try audiobooks or listen to some podcasts instead.

Use professional cleaners

If your budget allows, one of the easiest ways to make cleaning more bearable is to have someone else do it for you! From full deep cleans to professional rug cleaning, you should have no trouble finding someone to undertake the services you require.

If you decide to hire a cleaner, it’s worth asking friends and family for recommendations rather than randomly picking one. They will be coming in and out of your home regularly, so it makes sense to do your research first.

Use good cleaning products

Cleaning can be made far easier by using good products designed specifically for certain tasks. You might have to spend a little more, but it will be worth it in the long run.

Another option is to make your own cleaners instead. They can prove just as effective and will be far more natural than shop-bought products. You might also save yourself some money in the process.

Put together a cleaning rota

Cleaning rotas are a great way to create daily cleaning goals and should reduce the risk of you feeling overwhelmed. It’s also a great way to monitor what you have completed and what remains outstanding. If you aren’t sure where to start, there are loads of draft rotas online that can be adapted to suit your needs.

If you want to take it one step further, you can even laminate them so you can tick things off as you go using a dry wipe marker and then re-use them over and over.
