The Internet, a network of computers covering the entire planet, allows people to access almost any information located anywhere in the world at any time. Its effects on business, communication, economy, entertainment and even politics are profound. The Internet may not have changed the world as much as the plough, but it’s probably on par with the steam engine or automobile.

DARPA, the research and development arm of the U.S. military, created ARPANET in the late 1960s. Other computer networks began to cross the globe in the next few years and by the end of the 1970s, computer scientists created TCP/IP, a single protocol that would allow computers to communicate with computers on other networks. This was essentially the birth of the Internet, but it took 10 or so years for various other networks in the world to adopt the new protocol, making the Internet truly global.

Then there is the humble but not to be understated television, present in every households just like the Internet. The invention of the television was the work of many individuals in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Colour television had its beginnings in the late 1940s.

Then there is PictureThis. The story of PictureThis begins in 2009 when Dian had a game changing idea. Creating an image of a message would bring a colour revolution to messaging, just like what happened with televisions. It was obscure to Dian that there existed such great technology, yet we couldn’t even send a graphical message. Some research found a few existing but acutely cumbersome methods, however none of these were remotely suitable for her vision.

It was Dian’s daughter who thought of screen capture. Belinda was only 12 years old at the time!Public disclosure of Dian’s subsequent patent applications quickly ‘spread the word’ with more and more catching on to such a brilliant idea. Screen capture is now globally used as a foundation in creative messaging.

Not giving up in seeking rewards for having introduced such a useful technology, Dian put on her thinking cap and asked “how can you otherwise use this technology to bring something else that is new and different to the world.” Before long, the concept of PictureThis came to life, Dian realising another technology that would be a perfect fit with screen capture in bringing new and exciting things to messaging. This time however, much more street smart and keeping quiet until launch.

Everything starts with an idea: PictureThis App is world class, amazingly versatile and introduces features never before seen in messaging. It is proudly the result of an extraordinary idea thought of by ordinary people. So if you have a great idea.. “Believe in yourself and anything is possible with a good measure of faith and determination.”
